Kharibari community development block has an area of 143.50 km2.[2]
The town of Kharibari lies near the India-Nepal border. Siliguri is 30 km to its north-east. Bhadrapur, a Nepalese town, is 13 km away from Kharibari. Naxalbari (towards the north), Phansidewa (towards the east) and Thakurganj (towards the south in Bihar) are the nearby towns. The nearest airfield is Bagdogra airport. The nearest major railway station is at New Jalpaiguri.
Kharibari block consists of rural areas only with 4 gram panchayats, viz. Binnabari, Buraganj, Kharibari-Panishali and Raniganj–Panishali. This block has one police station at Kharibari. Headquarters of this block is in Kharibari.
As per 2001 census, Kharibari block had a total population of 88,206, out of which 45,472 were males and 42,734 were females. Kharibari block registered a population growth of 37.80 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for the district was 16.94 per cent.[2] Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[3]
